Japan's Living Museum of Culture

Kyoto puts forth an air of mysticism, yet charms you like a geisha serving tea. This former imperial capital is the quintessential example of old world Japan, remarkably well-preserved in spite of the modern day comforts. The sheer number of architecturally exquisite temples, palaces and shrines is the first thing you’ll notice. Walk the preservation districts of Sannen-zaka and Fushimi and admire the city's traditional houses. Zen out in the lovely gardens, bargain at antiques shops and indulge in the delicious cuisine.
