A Modern City Steeped in History

Dubrovnik is a modern city steeped in history. Easy-to-navigate Old Town offers up baroque architecture and white limestone streets behind ancient fortress walls and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Set right on the Adriatic Sea, the city’s beautiful beaches are pebbly, yet welcoming, and divers will find plenty of underwater caves nearby to keep them exploring the crystal-clear waters. The beauty of the area is not to be underestimated and may seem familiar. Surrounded by the Elaphite Islands, this area has been the primary film location for fantasy series Game of Thrones. However, this isn’t Dubrovnik’s only claim to fame. Tourism has thrived here in recent years – Croatia is the 18th most popular traveler destination in the world – because the Croatian people are very lively and proud ever since the country gained independence in 1991.
